It would be silly of me to try and show you every type of fish you could keep in your new aquarium, as there are literally hundreds of them. Instead I've grouped together the most common fishes into the following categories.
| Common Aquarium Fish | These are the most common and easiest to look after aquarium fish. Species such as, Barbs, Tetra's and Rasbora. |
| CatFish | Catfish come in many shapes and sizes. Some are peaceful community tank inhabitants and others should be kept on their own. Just a small selection of the many varieties are listed here. |
| Cichlids | Very popular with aquarium keepers across the world. Some of these Chiclids are fishes of very large proportions (and predatory natures to match). |
| Gouramis | These fish tend to have very vividly coloured males with quite drab looking (in comparison) females. They are usually ok to be kept in community tanks with similar sized fish. |
| Loaches | Like catfish, loaches forage for food on the bottom of the aquarium and appreciate plenty of hiding spaces. Some are sensitive to changes in air pressure, their odd behaviour may precede adverse weather conditions |
| Live Bearing Fish | Pretty much like it says, live bearing fish, they give birth to live young. |
